Scythe’s Big Shuriken 3 is 69mm in height at default, with comparable performance to the Noctua L12S. The Scythe Big Shuriken 3 features an offset cooler design, so the cooler covers I/O shroud instead of the RAM, as with the Noctua L12S. This means the cooler has no RAM compatibility issues.
This unconventional cooler offset presents potential issues with motherboard compatibility and case suitability. Some motherboard I/O shrouds may be incompatible with the Scythe Big Shuriken 3. Case suitability will need to be considered as ITX cases don’t usually have vent holes that cover the full side panel so airflow to the CPU cooler will be reduced in cases that don’t feature edge to edge vent holes.
